Walnut Dresser - Before

Walnut Dresser - After

This particular piece was in dire need of attention. The finish was crazed, hazy, and had a sticky feel to it indicating that the finish could not be saved. There were areas of missing veneer, which had to be replaced. The hardware was missing except for one or two pulls on the drawers and the others were replaced. The piece is primarily walnut veneer, but the top three smaller drawer faces are mahogany. The base was weak and needed to be re-glued.
|
After many hours of complete stripping, replacing veneer, and working out the right color, this piece now enhances the bedroom where it sits. Three coats of lacquer were applied, and all six drawers were repaired to ensure smooth operation.

This piece was in bad shape and had been this way for many years. It was painted about eight times with many different colors. It was completely stripped inside and out about four times to remove all of the paint.Because the piece had been painted so many times and due to its age there was residue embedded deep into the grain and could not be refinished in the traditional sense.I suggested to the customer that it should be painted.A color was chosen that would complement the piece and the room where it sits.
|
The base color of three coats was applied then"grained"to resseurect the look of wood grain.Structuraly, the piece was weak and in need of regluing. The hardware on the upper and lower doors is original and made from copper. The knobs on the four upper drawers are wooden and painted to match the graining color. The only new hardware is on the lower drawers. The upper and lower doors didn't close properly and needed repair also.
